There are many ways to encourage our children to eat fruit and vegetables for good health. A classroom excursion to a fresh food market is one way to give children an interactive and exciting learning experience about all types of fresh produce, but particularly about fruit and vegetables.
ACT Health, in partnership with the ACT Department of Education and Training (DET) and Nutrition Australia has produced a publication titled Make the Most of a Fresh Food Market Tour Manual. The manual will provide ACT preschool and primary school teachers, their students and market tour operators with relevant and consistent information to get the most out of a school excursion to a fresh food market as well as learn about fresh food in the classroom. To view the online version of the manual, please visit the ACT Health website at www.health.act.gov.au then search for the name of the publication from the home page.
The Belconnen Fresh Food Markets contributed to the development this publication and also conduct market tours for students.
